We can not believe October is over! We have posted a calendar outside our room for anyone who would like to help out in classroom. Thank you for being patient with us. We like to have time at the beginning of the school year to establish routines and expectations with the children. The children are becoming familiar with routines and they are learning to work and play together. We have been concentrating on expected behavior, respect and kindness. The children have been learning about what respect looks like in the classroom, hallways, playground, gym, etc. They are practicing being attentive at listening times.
Our themes have been colors, fall, thankfulness and Halloween. We have been focusing on activities that strengthen fine motor skills such as printing, coloring, cutting, tearing, tracing, drawing, etc. In the next few weeks we will begin to correct the printing of names. In Language Arts, the children have learned some sight words. We have also taught them the alphabet song a little differently than you are used to , to getaway from the lmnop problem. Grade ones have been sounding out with the McCracken Spelling program and kindergartens have started an alphabet book. We all experiment with our writing in our journals. In math we have been counting, learning to identify odd and even numbers, as well as learning to identify, continue and create patterns.
Our trip to the pumpkin patch was so much fun! What a beautiful fall day. Of course we all enjoyed meeting different characters on Halloween day! We have also had some lessons with Mrs. Loader, a pe specialist, in the gym. She is teaching to use our arms when we run, walk backwards, use the space of the gym and play fun games.
